Getting started with Tailor

The mental model behind Tailor: projects, rooms, and selections. Then your first ten minutes, from blank workspace to a project ready for real work.

Tailor runs your studio end to end: sourcing, boards, renders, schedules, procurement, and client approvals in one place. That sounds like a lot, and it is. But it all hangs off one simple idea, and once you have it, every screen in the app makes sense.

The shape of the work

Everything in Tailor lives inside a project, one per job, usually named after the home. A project holds rooms, and rooms hold selections: the products you have chosen, each carrying its own specs, pricing, quantity, and status. That chain — project, room, selection — is the spine. Your mood boards pull from it, your renders are anchored by it, your schedules and purchase orders are generated from it, and your client approves against it. Enter a product once, and it flows everywhere it needs to go.

Projects are the front door: one per job, with its rooms, selections, and schedule.

Your first ten minutes

Most studios are productive within the hour. Here is the shortest path from a fresh workspace to a project ready for design work.

  1. 1

    Create a project

From the dashboard, click New project. Name it after the home ("Hillside Residence" beats "Smith Job #4" a year from now) and add the rooms in scope.

Rooms are cheap to add and rename later. Start with the rooms you are actually designing this phase.

  2. 2

    Pick the project type

Residential, commercial, or hospitality — the type tunes room suggestions and the defaults that follow. Two clicks now, and the rest of the setup meets you halfway.

  3. 3

    Bring in a few products

Paste a retailer URL into the Library, or install the Clipper extension and save products as you browse. Vision AI reads the photos, dimensions, materials, and pricing for you.

  4. 4

    Assign selections to rooms

Drop products into the rooms they belong to. This is the moment they become selections: line items with status, quantity, and a place on the schedule.

  5. 5

    Make something visual

Open a mood board or the Visualizer. Both pull straight from your selections, so the first board or render takes minutes, not an afternoon.

  1. 1Everything in Tailor lives in a project. Start one from your dashboard.
  2. 2Name the project. Most studios use the home's name. This one is Hillside Residence.
  3. 3Add the rooms in scope. Rooms organize your selections, schedules, and renders.
  4. 4Create the project. Tailor sets up the rooms and an empty schedule for you.

Where things live

The sidebar is short on purpose. Five places cover almost everything you will do in a day:

  • Projects: the front door. Every job, its rooms, schedule, documents, and design tabs.
  • Library: your studio’s product catalog, shared across projects. Import once, reuse everywhere.
  • Boards: mood boards, both inside projects and standalone.
  • Messages: team chat with an AI agent that can create clients, draft documents, and find products.
  • Clients: people, portals, and approvals.

One shortcut worth learning on day one

  • Search everything: projects, products, clients, documentsK

Where to go from here

From here the path splits by what you want to make first. If it is a presentation, start with mood boards. If it is a buy list, start with the schedule. Either way, the next guide walks through project setup in detail: rooms, clients, and the settings that pay off later.
